Sheldon Lavin, the CEO and president of OSI Group, an American company of meat processors that provide to retail and food service industries, has been able to expand his company with excellent leadership skills and his ability to provide the needs of the company. OSI Group, formerly known as Otto and Sons, opened its first meat plant in West Chicago in 1973. OSI Group entered a licensing agreement with Best Chicago Meat in 1999 and acquired the title of Best Chicago Meat. OSI is currently #58 on the Forbes list of largest private companies, with an annual revenue of $6.1 billion. Lavin’s love for the business has been the key to his growing success and the relationships he has built with those who work within the company.
Lavin gained knowledge of the meat industry with his involvement with Otto and Sons, where he worked as a financial consultant. Sheldon Lavin worked closely with the CEO and executives of the company while gaining more knowledge of the business aspect. With his contributions, Lavin decided to work full-time and was able to expand the company, along with the aid of others, to North America and Europe during the 1970s. After expanding to North America and Europe, OSI Group was able to expand to Australia, Japan, South America, Taiwan and many more places around the globe. With expansion and Lavin’s dedication, the company has risen from there. Today, OSI Group has over 55 facilities in 16 countries supporting McDonald’s, OSI Group’s partner, and other food industries around the globe.
As well as being a businessman, Lavin is also a dedicated philanthropist, donating to charities such as Ronald McDonald, Evans Scholarship Fund, the Boys and Girls’ Club of Chicago, United Negro College Fund, The National Multiple Sclerosis and much more, both national and local. Lavin has been recognized and awarded for his business production, community involvement, and integrity. Just recently, Lavin earned the Global Visionary Award, which recognizes entrepreneurs for their passion and strength for the business they oversee. Lavin is also the board member for both the Goodman Theatre and Rush University Medical Center and is the president and director of The Sheba Foundation, a family charity foundation. Lavin is still married to his wife, with whom he has three children with, and considers OSI Group employees as a part of his extended family.
