Greetings and welcome!

Creative Dubuque is a one-woman endeavor located in the scenic Mississippi River community of Dubuque, Iowa. My interests include birding, native plants and wildflowers, native American history, tarot cards, books, quilting, art, music, old movies, old houses, and of course, love and life. As a creative person, I’m generally carrying a camera. I enjoy art festivals and museums, coffee shops, and long walks around Dubuque.

Writing and social media

I twitter as Creativedbq, also serving as a social media expert for Dubuque County Fine Arts Society, and organizer of the Dubuque Novel Writers Association. I’ve written feature articles for Voices from the Warehouse District VII, DubuqueFest 2011, the marketing office of Northeast Iowa Community College, the Northeastern Press, and the Dubuque Telegraph Herald’s Her magazine. The TH chose me as a featured blogger in Meet Your Online Neighbors. My writing has appeared online at sites such as eHow.com (Demand Media) and Helium.com. Some of my feature articles have also appeared in the bi-monthly Dubuque-area publication, 365ink. Since September 2011 I’ve served as Events Editor for Julien’s Journal and I also contribute events to 365ink. Read my blog for samples of my ongoing writing, or view a writing portfolio.

My background

I attended the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa, spent many years as a stay-at-home mom, then went back to school for a diploma in desktop publishing. I’m fluent in HTML and CSS, as well as WordPress, Facebook and Twitter, and I know software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Photoshop. I work as a college writing tutor where I also answer basic computer questions. I moonlight in book production as a freelance proofreader, and I’m also interested in supporting locals arts and environmental organizations.

As an independent freelancer, I offer resume writing, as well as editorial proofreading of business or professional documents. I know the importance of clear communication and attention to detail while meeting a deadline. I am also available for custom freelance writing projects.
